Plant of the month - September - Bulbs

With bulb planting season rapidly gathering momentum we have decided to choose two plants of the month for September, and they both come in bulb form ready to burst into bloom next spring.

Tulip: Hotpants
First up we have Taylors bulb of the year: Hotpants. This tulip comes with unusual white and claret stripes, enough to bring a vibrant look to any garden.

Soil/Position: Will grow in a wide range of soils. Like sunshine although partial shade will prolong the life of the flowers. Ideal for beds & borders.

Care and cultivation: Remove flower heads when they begin to fade. Tulips are best lifted the leaves begin to fade.

Experts tip: Display in groups for visual impact. Great for under-planting roses or growing through Muscari.

Availability: Pre-packed 7 bulbs for £2.99

Narcissus: Cheerfulness White
No bulb collection would be complete without a variety of the classic Narcissus, and the beautifully scented Cheerfulness White will put a smile firmly on the face of any display. May have multiple flowers per stem.

Soil/Position: Well-drained or Moist but well-drained. Acid, Alkaline or Neutral. Chalk, Clay, Sand or Loam.

Care and cultivation: Plant at one and a half to two times its own depth in autumn.

Availability: Sold loose, fill a bag for £5.99 or 2 bags for £10
