Parish of Curry Mallet receives saplings from garden centre

The Parish of Curry Mallet has recently been presented with 30 young trees so it can build up a hedge along School Lane.

Mary Hughes, Tree Warden for the Parish of Curry Mallet, said: “We’re thrilled to have received saplings from the garden centre.

“We will be using them to build up a hedge that follows the path to Curry Mallet Church of England Primary School as it has become thinned due to the weather and general wear and tear. Reinforcing the hedge gaps with the new saplings will, in time, provide a more effective barrier between the pathway and the stream close by.”

Tree Wardens, who are appointed by Parish Councils, are made up of volunteers who champion trees and woods and play an active part in protecting and improving the area as well as encouraging people to recognise the importance of trees to the community.

We have held our sapling giveaway every year and it is always extremely popular. We offer the saplings to charities, communities, schools and other worthy causes and it is always really interesting to see the different projects people are working on.

“Earlier this year we set aside 2,014 small sapling trees, which were allocated to worthy causes on a first come, first served basis. We’re delighted to have helped the Parish of Curry Mallet build up its new hedging.
