Hillier celebrate their 150th anniversary at Chelsea 2014

Hillier Nurseries hope to secure a 69th consecutive Chelsea Gold Medal with a garden exhibit recounting the story of Hillier: the plants, the people, the passion.

The garden design will reference some of the most significant elements of Hillier’s 150 year history and will include a Valley of Japanese Maples inspired by the Acer Valley in the world famous Sir Harold Hillier Gardens located near Romsey in Hampshire. A Green and White Garden will be a tribute to the quintessential English White Gardens of Sissinghurst and Hidcote Manor and a showcase for some of the classic Hillier Chelsea plants such as Cornus, Viburnum and Betula. The design will also incorporate a modern small garden to show how Hillier plants can help create a stunning garden in a small space.

Hillier remain passionate about new plants and will be showing many of the great plants that they have introduced in the past including Choisya ‘Aztec Pearl’ and Choisya ‘Aztec Gold’. They will also be showing new plants for 2014 including Weigela middendorffiana ‘Mango’ (pictured above) which was selected by John Hillier and has striking primrose-yellow flowers with a mango, orange and pink speckled throat.

Hillier Nurseries are proud to have been supplying Monkton Elm with quality plants since the Garden Centre first opened and a wide selection of the Nurseries’ plants are always available from the centre.
