Caring for indoor plants over winter

It’s always nice to have a variety of plants indoors over winter to brighten up your surroundings, but they need to be properly cared for in order to survive.

Most houseplants prefer cooler growing conditions at this time of year so it’s important not to place them near radiators or fires. You should also avoid fluctuating temperatures and draughts, which can cause the leaves or flowers to drop.

For good growth, you can move plants closer to windows, however be sure not to place them behind net curtains, where cold air can get trapped, and ensure foliage doesn’t touch the cold glass.

You should also place plants in cooler rooms and be careful not to over water them. Let the surface of the compost dry a little before watering again and be sure to not let them stand in liquid.
