Jane Earthy - Judging at Somerset College
On Thursday I was invited once again to judge at Somerset
College. It is the fifth time I have
done so, and it is always a pleasure to see everyone there.
Foundation Learning Students were given the task of making a
3D model based on Somerset College. Students
were tasked with the challenge of creating their vision on areas around the
College grounds. This included their
vocational areas:
Art had to design their vision on the new Art Building.
Health and Social Care designed a vision on a play area, Catering
a vision on an area suitable to use for holding functions and Construction
students redesigned a piece of college waste land.
The standard this year was the highest ever - so much
thought had been put into the designs, first on paper and then in 3D. So judging was tough! I had to take into consideration use of
materials, imagination and presentation amongst the criteria which isn’t easy
when every students work was so different.
However, winners were chosen from each vocation and the two with the
highest points went forward to enjoy an afternoon awards ceremony.
Many thanks to all those at Somerset College for welcoming
me back!
