Plant Of The Month - April - Viburnum carlesii

Viburnum Carlesii is a superb shrub for the April garden. Also known as the Koreanspice, it’s sweet, heady fragrance fills the warm spring air.

Large snowball-like blooms open from clusters of pink buds and are held above soft green foliage.  Later in the year, autumn brings red berries and brilliant reddish tints to the leaves before they fall.

Viburnum carlesii likes moist acidic well drained soil in sun, although it is very tolerant of many other soil conditions and semi-shade.

The cultivar ‘Aurora’ is an excellent example and reaches a couple of metres high.
