See our ‘wonderland’ garden at flower show

We’re inviting you to come along and see our ‘wonderland’ garden on display at the Taunton Flower Show at Vivary Park on August 7 and 8.

This will be the 30th year we have attended the show and our show garden will have an Alice in Wonderland theme with a twist.

Last year our WW1 memorial garden scooped a large gold medal and the Bill Cridland Memorial Trophy for ‘Best in Show’, which we were absolutely thrilled about, so we’re keen to repeat the success this year.

This year we have decided to re-create Alice’s adventures in Wonderland with a garden inspired by the children’s classic, which celebrates its 150th birthday this year. We’ll be using a variety of plants to recreate the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

There will be a twist to the theme, which we’re keeping a closely guarded secret. In the run up to building the garden we’re looking for any pantomime groups or societies that can help with costumes and props. Anyone who can help should email plants@monkton-elm.co.uk.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll and this year celebrates its 150th birthday.

It tells the tale of Alice falling through a rabbit hole and stumbling upon a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures. Its characters and imagery have been influential in popular culture and literature ever since.

Our Store Manager, Andrew Pitman, will be at the Taunton Flower Show on both days to chat to visitors and answer any questions people may have about our garden.

We hope to see lots of you there!
