Colin Randel offers free expert potato advice

Our popular Potato Weekend is back on February 13 and 14 with expert Colin Randel offering free advice on growing spuds.

With increasing concerns about where food comes from and how it has been treated, there’s never been a better time to start growing your own potatoes and you don’t have to have a large garden or an allotment to do this. They grow just as well on patios in containers as they do in the ground.

We’re delighted to have Colin coming along to offer his expertise and let you know just how easy it is to grow your own at home.

During the weekend we will have seed potato varieties on show. We hope that lots of you will come along to find out more about this fantastic vegetable.

Colin said: “I’m thrilled to be visiting Monkton Elm to offer my expertise on the art that is potato growing. I’ll be on-hand to answer people’s questions about how they can grow their own spuds at home, what equipment they’ll need to do so and the techniques used.

“Anyone is welcome along to receive some advice, whether they are keen gardeners with experience in growing vegetables or beginners looking to take up a new hobby.”

Colin has more than 40 years’ experience in the horticultural industry. He has been part of the RHS Vegetable Trials forum for 22 years and was the Chair of the forum for eight years from 2006 until 2013. He is also an honorary member of the Fruit, Veg and Herb Committee.
