Make little hearts flutter this Valentine’s Day

LOVE will be in the air not just for humans this Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2016) but also for birds.
We’re asking you to put up a nest box to help birds pair up in support of National Nest Box Week from February 14 until 21.

National Nest Box Week, organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), encourages people to put up nest boxes in their area to help breeding birds. It is a great cause so we thought we would lend our support and encourage you to get involved during the most romantic week of the year.

Natural nest sites, which bird species depend on, such as holes in trees and old buildings, disappear when we tidy our gardens, so there’s never been a better time to invest in a nest box. We have a variety of nest boxes available for you to purchase or our expert staff can advise you if you’re hoping to make your own.

National Nest Box Week is designed to focus the nation’s attention on the provision of nest boxes for Britain’s birds.

Having a nest box in your garden or nearby is a great way to learn more about the different species and their habits. The BTO is asking you to monitor your nest boxes during the week and report your findings back via www.bto.org.

The BTO is an independent charitable research institute combining professional and citizen science aimed at using evidence of change in wildlife populations, particularly birds, to inform the public, opinion-formers and environmental policy and decision-makers.
