Jobs to do in the garden this week
It’s time to get out in the garden and give your crops and plants some attention.
- If you planted your seed potatoes back along, then they should be looking good now and you can ‘earth them up’ once their stems and leaves reach 25cm. This means adding earth/soil to either side and around the potatoes stems to help encourage a bigger crop. Also make sure you water them as the weather looks set to be warm.
- It’s also time to prevent climbers and sweet peas flopping by tying them up as they grow.
- If the risk of frost has passed plant out tender crops such as courgettes, cucumbers and sweetcorn.
- Sowing any remaining seeds that need to be done this weekend will ensure plants are at the perfect size for planting out next month.
- Keep an eye out for any pests before infestations take over and remember to keep weeds at bay.
