Tilly and Lauren crowned ‘star bakers’

Tilly Hooper and Lauren Murray from Taunton were crowned the winners in their categories in our Bake Off competition recently (March, 2016).

Tilly won first place in the under 11’s category with her lemonade layer cake and Lauren’s chocolate mocha caramel cake came top in the 12-years-old and over category.

We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Tilly and Lauren on winning their categories in the competition. Both of their bakes were fantastic.

Our Pastry Chef, Gemma, and Catering Manager, Denis, found Tilly’s idea for her cake very imaginative and the result very well executed. Tilly’s original recipe includes cream cheese which we’ll have to alter so we can display and sell from our cake tables. Hopefully we will recreate it so our customers can enjoy it too!

Lauren’s cake was a real treat, very indulgent, just what you want with a cup of your favourite tea or coffee. Well done for creating such a complex cake, we know our customers will enjoy it as much as we did.

Both winners received a £25 voucher for the garden centre as well as a certificate and their cakes will be made and included on the garden centre’s menu in April.

It was great to see so many youngsters getting involved with the competition and showing off their baking skills.
