“Nothing really beats the style and classic appearance of a top notch teak or hardwood set but it will need some maintenance so take this into consideration when selecting your furniture.

“Cast aluminium or modern iron mesh sets are all the rage this year. These require very little maintenance and can be happily left outside untreated for years.

“Check for rust-free guarantees and in the case of cast aluminium, check whether it’s solid or if the legs are hollow, you should also ask if it’s made from one-piece or flat-packed.

“Finally, ‘all weather weave’ is rapidly becoming a comfortable, maintenance-free option. It is resin-based and the frames are aluminium, so are light and don’t rust.”
