Rising Star Hana to display at Chelsea Flower Show

Our Outdoor Living Department Assistant, Hana Parker, will be displaying a container at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show (May, 2016) as part of a national Rising Stars programme.

Hana is part of the Garden Centre Association (GCA) and Westland Horticulture’s Rising Stars programme designed to showcase young horticultural industry talent and will be creating a ‘home-grown gardening’ container for the show.

Hana, whose container will be a part of The Sun – Flower Square garden designed by gardening broadcaster and writer Peter Seabrook, said: “I am really pleased to be taking part in the Rising Stars programme and to be given the opportunity to display at the Chelsea Flower Show. It will give me a great insight into the show and the chance to see the beautiful and inspiring gardens the show is famous for.

“I have put together a detailed Grow Your Own container, named Herbs and Bug Homes, for the display using a wide range of herbs, including Purple Sage, Marjoram, Taragon, Thyme, Lemon Thyme, Basil, Creeping Rosemary and Curly Parsley.”

The GCA and Westland Horticulture seek nominations from talented ‘rising stars’ from garden centres across the UK, who then battle it out in a variety of different tasks.

Candidates’ work will be assessed throughout the year to review the various elements on which the finalists have received training. The best performing participants will be invited to the 2017 GCA conference where they will showcase some of their work to the audience and talk about the difference it has made. A final winner will then be voted for by conference attendees.

This year’s contenders have been invited to each create a container around the subject of ‘home-grown gardening’, which will be on display in The Sun – Flower Square garden.

They will travel down to the show and talk to visitors and VIPs about their creation.

Keith Nicholson, Marketing Director for Westland Horticulture, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Rising Stars and their garden centres to exhibit at the prestigious RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which will be held during the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations.”

The Chelsea Flower Show will take place from May 24 until 28. Be sure to pop along to see Hana’s creation.
