Time to get snipping
Reach for your snippers and secateurs, it’s time to do some trimming and to get your garden in tip top condition.
- You should dead head delphiniums and lupins once they have flowered as this will help promote more blooms
- Towards the end of the month prune spring flowering shrubs once they have flowered
- Take care when trimming box, privet and lonicera hedges as birds may be nesting in them
- Cut back hardy geraniums, heucheras and oriental poppies, this should make way for more foliage and flowers
- Remove side shoots from tomato plants
- If you have a patch of nettles to encourage wildlife cut them back to encourage new growth
- Due to the warm weather, be sure to water anything you’ve planted recently as it will be desperate for a drink.
