Help support older people with ‘Silver Line’ plant

Lonely older people will benefit from sales of The Lavandula ‘Silver Line’ with £1 from every sale of our plants being donated to The Silver Line charity, which is a helpline for lonely and isolated older people.

The Silver Line charity does excellent work for lonely older people so we wanted to somehow do our bit and when we heard about the launch of the Lavandula ‘Silver Line’ by our suppliers, Hillier Nurseries, we thought it was the perfect opportunity.

One pound from every sale of the plant will go to the charity. The lavender is a hardy and compact plant with fragrant silver-green evergreen foliage. It has elegant, tall spikes of pure white flowers and is currently in flower until August.

The plants are perfect for pots and container planting as well as low hedging and borders. They’re also great for attracting bees and butterflies to the garden and are very easy to maintain.

We hope lots of you pop in to pick up a plant or two for your garden as it is for such a great cause. Our staff will be on-hand for anyone who has any questions with regards planting and caring for the lavender.

The Silver Line operates the only national, free, confidential helpline for lonely and isolated older people. It currently receives 10,000 calls a week and more than 68% of calls are made at night or at weekends.

Dame Esther Rantzen, Founder of The Silver Line, said: “I’m a great fan of lavender. I love its look, its fragrance and that it puts up with the way I treat it and just keeps coming back. That’s why I’m delighted with The Silver Line Lavender, it’s such a lovely-looking plant.

“Lavender suits so many people. It looks great in a garden, or you can grow it in a window box or in a pot on a balcony and it really attracts the bees and butterflies.”
