Youngsters encouraged to take up gardening this New Year

Children are the future generation of gardening and we believe it’s extremely important to get them out into the fresh air and learning all about horticulture as soon as possible.

A study by the Royal Horticultural Society found that gardening increases children’s alertness and concentration levels.

The New Year is the perfect time for youngsters to plant mustard and cress seeds as these are super easy and quick to grow and a great way to introduce them to growing their own. They can help with the chitting of early potatoes too by popping them in egg boxes and storing them in a cool, dry place, allowing them to produce shoots.

They can also help with jobs around the garden such as the pruning of plants and assist with looking after garden birds by helping provide food, water and shelter.

We’re more than happy to help any youngsters that come into the garden centre with any gardening related questions. Our expert staff are always on hand to give advice, assist with any equipment that might be needed and are happy to offer free demos.

We also stock a range of children’s gardening tools, wheelbarrows, gloves, wellington boots, books and a range of seeds for young gardeners.
