Get growing in the kitchen garden

If you’re growing some fruit and vegetables this year then we have a couple of quick five minute fixes you should be putting into practice this month, whether you’re growing on a patio or an allotment:

  • Now is the time to remove dead wood from gooseberries and red and whitecurrants.
  • It’s time to get your shallot and onion sets in – make sure you leave the tops so they are just showing but are protected from any birds.
  • Sow onion seeds now.
  • Sow aubergines, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and chillies indoors in a propagator.
