Spring clean your garden

Now that the evenings are lighter and the weather is slowly improving, it’s time to think about giving your garden a spring clean. Many people spring clean the home so why not the garden too?

You can get lots of pruning done at this time of year. Start with roses, cut back Buddleias, Leycesteria and Lavateras and trim Lavender and other herbs. Once done give everything a good feed with Vitax Q4.

Once your pruning is done, step back and take a look at your garden paths and patios. Full of moss and weeds? Use a narrow wire brush to remove detritus from cracks in paving and distribute a weedkiller where you can’t access roots. Clean paths and patios with a cleaner, which should help restore colour.

Give decking a good sweep too and treat with an algicide.

Any garden tools you have will need to be sharpened, including lawnmower blades, so they’re ready once the weather really picks up.

Don’t forget the greenhouse, conservatory or shed too! Give any glass a good clean with detergent or soap to help kill off algae, fungal spores and overwintering pests. Clean glass will also help more light get to your plants, allowing them to grow quicker. Clear away dead or decaying leaves, clean pots and trays too.
