Twas the night before Christmas...


Keep your little ones entertained and eagerly employed on Christmas Eve with some of our handy hints:

  • Make something crafty – check out our crafting materials in our Craft Centre on-site.
  • Bake some homemade gingerbread biscuits or mince pies to leave out for Father Christmas or ice a gingerbread house. We have a cook shop in-house so if you need equipment and recipes books, why not pop in and see what we have in stock?
  • Make sure you have enough stockings and Santa sacks for everyone and arrange them together.
  • Have a calming and gentle countdown to bedtime with songs and stories.
  • Make sure everyone has warm PJs and dressing gowns for the morning as early risers will need to be kept all snuggly as they open their pressies.
  • Involve your little ones in organising their onesies, dressing gowns, fluffy socks and slippers the night before and ensuring they are readily to hand.

Plant Of The Month - March - Scabious: Butterfly Blue

Picture in your mind a quintessential English country garden, and there, in the traditional  border would be a clump of Scabious, flowering its heart out.  Known as the Pincushion flower, due to the prominent stamens rising from compact, round blooms, which look like pins in a pincushion, this hardy free flowering perennial has to be one of our favourite cottage garden plants.  Not only will it flower for many months it is also a delicious nectar bar for bees butterflies and other insects.  We have selected Scabious 'Butterfly Blue' and it's offspring 'Pink Mist' because, unlike the old fashioned Scabious causicus, they are very compact,flower continually,  and do not need staking or supporting.  Scabious 'Butterfly Blue' was introduced to the UK Garden Centre market back in 1985 and was an overnight success, with over 20,000 plants sold in it's first season.  This lavender-blue flowering form was originally selected several years before f...

Plant of the month - July - Hydrangea

Our plant of the month for July is the Hydrangea. The plant is enjoying a renaissance as this iconic bloom, so representative of the classic English garden. As last year proved, a cool wet summer really sees them thriving and producing glorious flowers over a long period, although they will happily perform in a sunny summer too.
